Rob Slotemaker Memorial Trophy Race 24-25th September 2004, Zandvoort An invitation was extended by The MG Team to compete in the "Equipe Grand Tourismo" race at the British Race Festival at Zandvoort. A memorial meeting for Rob Slotemaker, one time Le Mans driver, amongst many other achievements, including his own Skid school at Zandvoort.
The weather was somewhat changeable, and at times wet and windy. We were however fortunate to get dry practice, racing and parade laps.

With
previous 'LeMans' drivers otherwise engaged we engaged the services of Bert
Smeets (Belgium) owner of Tony Ponds ex works TR8 Rally Cars, to drive for us.
Although he had not driven a Spitfire before he did not let the team down having
a good race with MG driver Rod Longton.
The
weekend allowed for practice, qualifying and a 30 minute race, together with
parade laps for cars which Rob Slotemaker had driven over his career. A
wide variety of British sports cars attended the event including Jaguars, MG's
and Triumphs.
